Today marks the 50th anniversary of the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly(22), the Bip Bopper(29) and Richie Valens(17). On Feb 3 1959 these musicians decided to charter a filght in a small one engine craft to their next destination on "The Winter Dance Party" tour. Shortly after flight the plane crashed about 5 miles away. Holly, Bopper, Valens and the pilot all died on impact. The crash is said to be the cause of bad weather and inexperience on the part of the pilot. The term "The Day the Music Died" was coined by Don Mclean on his song "American Pie."
